decoding/identifying software user by UUID

New Here ,
Jan 13, 2018 Jan 13, 2018

For legal purposes (copyrights violation court case) I am trying to prove that I am not author/creator of a certain JPG file (which is backed by web.archive so this information is solid). the file contains EXIF and XMP metadata which include date (2013), software used (Adobe PS 7.0) and unique UUID.

My question is: is it possible to somehow decode or link this UUID number with a certain user meaning: IP address or e-mail or any other information (ie. registration or deregistration dates)?

I have contacted Adobe helpdesk and they said they don't provide help any other than product registration and recommended I post here.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Marcin

UUID can be generated by anyone for any reason and can be doctored the uuid may just mean some Plug-in was use.  Like an Adobe script like its Fit Image plugin the UUID may be all ovet the net and let in the matadata by some applicayion anybody could have used.  UUID are not nessary a security thing use to protect or identfy somone. I think your on a wild goose chase.

thank you for your reply.

probably you are right, but is there any online tool or person that can check the UUID provided and see what comes out of it? I mean a process like decoding a product serial number - I've tried it with Adobe and this number contained a lot of information once decoded

Metadata can tell when a file was originally created and using what software, but it won't track the location. Even then Metadata can be easily altered.

Press agencies redact personal information (who took the photo) for privacy reasons.

This may give you a better idea: Extensible Metadata Platform - Wikipedia

There are many tools one the web for generating UUID and uuid registration however It looks like all uuid would not be registered in any centralized registry.  This link may help you learn more about uuids Universally Unique Identifiers (UUIDs)

Decode seems to get date it was generated UUID Decode

My doctored UUID decode is invalid but works for my use I just change a character is a vailid one and used it before I knew how to generate one. I started using it in 2007.   Decoded state its a 1998 uuid. I just need an id that would work in my plug-in Photoshop script. Adobe added plug-in support in cs3  I did not know at that time that character string was a uuid....  I just knew I need some ID that look like the character string in Adobe's Fit Image plug-in script.

A UUID is a unique ID rather than a user iD. Years ago, each UUID contained traceable elements but this was seen as a privacy violation and was changed. Now they are by design untraceable and not repeated. It belongs to this file only. Still, Photoshop 7 is old, much older than 2013.  Of course all info may be faked. Anyway I refer you to Wikipedia for detailed knowledge of UUID generation.
