Disable Recent files list in Photoshop CC 2019-How?

Guest

I took the "Recent" files list out of my sidebar because all of the files on the list were anything BUT recent. Something like 150 files from as far back as 2017.
So how do I either make the list useful or get rid of it altogether? Or just disable it so that it doesn't keep popping up?

Dear JJ and Dave, Apologies. The issue I am experiencing is a Mac problem rather than a Photoshop problem. PS is probably just doing its job. I was looking at things all wrong when I wrote the original post. Thank you both for taking a stab at it. Your posts were helpful because making those changes in Photoshop did absolutely nothing as far as the Recent files list was concerned. Something should have changed, but it didn't. Answer: It's a Mac issue. So thanks for the help.

Hi

Not sure what you mean by your "sidebar" - a screenshot would help.

In the meantime you can clear the recent files list using File > Open Recent > Clear Recent Files list

Try setting the file handling recent list preference to 0. The will not clear the list the list length displayed will be none.  Yor can change it to 5 and five should be displayed in the list. Should also effect the Home Screen I would think. I disable that.

Haha. That explains the mention of the sidebar. I don't use a Mac so had not realised.

Glad it is sorted now though

Dave
