You can place an EPS file or any other vector file in Photoshop. But you can't edit it because you'd need to rasterize it in order to make it editable. So it wouldn't be a vector anymore. Layer > Rasterize > Smart object.

If "Edit Contents" in "Smart objects" on your second screenshot doesn't work, then you don't have Illustrator, or any other vector editor on your device.

And you can't view an EPS file in any basic picture program viewer, because it's not an image. It's a graphics fileformat, who can only be viewed in a vector graphics editor, or any Adobe program (because it has been created by Adobe).

If you want to view a vector file in Internet Explorer (or any other browser), you have to convert it in SVG (because this format is XML-based).

    Hi Andrei,

For EPS files, you'd most likely want Adobe Illustrator to be the default program for opening, right? Do you have Illustrator on your system?

Out of curiosity, did you create the smart object by using "File > Place" in Photoshop?

    Hi andreis,

Editing a Smart Object opens into the appropriate editor for the type of content you have enclosed in the Smart Object. If possible, that would be Photoshop (for raster images), but could be Illustrator for vector, or Adobe Camera Raw for raw files.

Please explain what exactly happens when you say, "is not working." Is there an error message? Does it open in a new Photoshop window? And please tell us what is in the Smart Object, and how you created it.

It's also always useful to know your Photoshop version, OS version, and any related information.

    Three steps

    First

    Second

    Third

In fact, I want to change the default program (viewer) for this action.

    Thanks,

    Andrei
