embedded icc profile cannot be used because the ICC profile description is invalid

This may not be a new issue but I am having trouble finding a response that fits my use case...

OS: Window 10 pro

HPZbook

I just installed Photoshop CC (2018) as part of the Photography Plan - classic. When I try and load images with embedded profiles I very often get the following dialog:

The image that I am loading has the sRGB IEC61996-2.1 profile embedded inside. I am stumped at why this profile is not able to be loaded. When I called the tech support the technician replaced many of the previously installed profiles in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color with the ones from the Adobe preferred profiles folder (I did not get the path before he closed the folder). That fixed some other embedded profile problems but not ones where the embedded profile is the sRGB IEC profile. These images load just fine in PS CS5 and the profiles are used.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Regards,

Gus

    oddly enough

Indeed. Weirdest thing I've heard in a while.

Just to make sure - sRGB files now open correctly, using the embedded sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile?

And you have your NEC display profiles correctly set up at system level?

If yes to both, all is well. Anyway, thanks for reporting back.

Yes, see if you can post a link.

This is weird. sRGB IEC61966-2.1 is hardwired into Windows. If you delete it, it will bounce right back. It comes with every Windows installation.

Where do these files come from? Is there a pattern? It's not uncommon that new PS versions add new error-checking code.

Thank you all for your attention and interest. I had another call with the service technician and he was able to fix the problem by, oddly enough, associating my default display profiles to standard profiles (sRGB). I then calibrated the displays using my NEC calibrator, this updated the system display profiles. From that point on everything has worked properly. Apparently there were some problems with the default profiles that shipped with my HP Zbook.

Again, thank you for your support.

    Hi

For the other folder try :

    C:Program Files (x86) > Common Files > Adobe > Color >Profiles >Recommended

Can you post a link to a problem file?
