As dave has said, with such a large area it is far better to select and delete.  You could sort of simulate an eraser by making the selection the size and shape required, and moving the select with any of the selection tools selected and hitting the delete key.   It would be faster, and way cleaner than using the eraser.

Hi

The short answer is no, and Ged has given you the link to make a feature request. I am genuinely interested though in the context where such a large eraser brush would be useful. Would a selection with clear or mask not serve better at that size?

The large physical size does not mean a lot. Are you sure you are not using too high a ppi leading in turn to an unnecessarily high pixel size. A large banner is usually viewed at an increased viewing distance. As the viewing distance increases, the number of pixels per inch decreases.
So a banner of 18metres x 5 metres would normally be viewed at a around 20 metres which is 780 inches. There is a formula to work out what ppi can be resolved by our eyes at a distance in inches. It is 6878/viewing distance (in inches). So that gives 6878/780 = 8.8ppi. Rounding it up to 10 gives a pixel dimension of 7020 x 1950 pixels.
Unless you have a special case where folk will walk right up to the banner and view it at book reading distance you don't need a high ppi.
