Erasing without feathering

Hello, I am fairly new to Photoshop, and while editing some basic images, I ran into an issue.

There is one image where I planned on making most of it transparent, so it could be overlayed over something. However, while erasing it, I noticed the non-selected area was being made transparent.

Is there a way to make a selected area transparent, without also feathering the edges? Thanks in advanced for your help.

    Hi

When making a selection there are two items to check

    1. Feather setting

    2. Anti-alias.

Your issue looks like the second - however be aware that with, anti-alias off, diagonals can look jagged.
