Error reading specific preferences..

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this issue I've been having with Photoshop CC 2017. Sometimes (not always) when I boot up Photoshop I get this message:

It's not a huge issue but it can be frustrating because it removes all of my artwork from the bridge and in the "open recent files" option. Does anyone know what's causing this, how to fix it etc?

I've tried searching for an answer but all I get are topics about intentionally trying to reset preferences.
