When creating a fire in photo of fireplace the Filter to Render to Flame no longer show Flame as an option... grayed out.  Have used in the past but no longer functions.

Some things to look at:

  • Are you working on a pixel layer? It doesn't work on a text layer or Smart Object.
  • Do you have 512MB of VRAM on your video card?
  • In Preferences > Performance > is Use Graphics Processor checked? (requires restart)

If you have checked the requirements Jane-e listed, the one idea I remember is to try Filter>Render>Lighting Effects and then try the other Render Filters: Tree, Frame and Flame.

Try resetting the preferences file. You can do that in Preferences > General.

If that doesn't work, you may need to uninstall/reinstall with the Adobe CC Cleaner tool.
