Font size not updating on screen as I scroll larger or smaller

Here's the example:

I have a word. Let's say 'Broken'

I have 'Broken' set to 20 pt text, I need to size it to the same width as something a bit longer than it currently is. I used to just highlight the text and use my scroll wheel to enlarge it until I could see it grow to the same size as the thing I wanted it to be the same size as. Now when I highlight the text and scroll, I can't see how big the text is getting as I increase the size. It only shows the new size of the text when I hit the enter key. Is this just a settings issue or has Adobe killed this really basic / essential functionality?
