Question

Freeform path tool loses flowing curves when draw finishes

Hi,

CS6

freeform path tool I draw some nice flowing curves and when I stop they are a mix of curves and angular lines, ebn somme sharp changes in direction. Set it to finest now at 0.5pixel and no better.

It should be that it gives you the handles etc that makes those curves as drawn, instead I have to draw the curve using the pen tool and drag out handles, I am only doing a simple wavy line nothing taxing !

Draw a peanut shape and it looks good then stop and its lost the nice curves I had, draw it using handles and its fine.

In other words it is useless. It does not allow user to draw the shape that its counterpart pen tool can create. The potential of saving loads of time messing about with nodes and handles is lost.

Is it better in later versions or just as bad ?

Hi!

If I am understanding you correctly, the problem is when you finish drawing your shape with the pen tool--is that correct? If so, then understanding how the pen tool works might help. As you know, when you want to create a smooth line, you need to click and drag. To create a straight line or a corner, you just click. If you want to finish off a smooth line like the peanut shape you are talking about, you need to CLICK AND DRAG on the point that you are closing. If you just click, it will create a corner point and mess up the line. If you click and drag on your ending point and follow the line (that you orginally drew at the beginning) you won't be creating a mess and it will keep its shape.

Let us know if that answers your question!

Hi

Can you show your peanut shape with the anchor points showing and with the Paths panel?
