Have sharp edges in layer FX

Hi guys I was wanderingg if there is any way to have layer fx like stroke or cast shadow without soft (aliased) edges, for silkprinting I need hard edges

Yes, just play with the settings. For drop shadow, just use distance and keep spread and size at 0. Stroke is a hard edge with FX.

Here is one of the ways to get hard edges:

  • After adding drop shadow effect, right click on Effects below layer and choose Create Layer. This will create searate layer below with drop shadow on that layer.
  • Drag layer with drop shadow onto Add layer mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. That will add transparency layer mask to layer with shadow.
  • With layer mask selected  press Ctrl + L to initialize Levels adjustments which will bapplied directly to layers mask. Play with sliders, drag left slider to the right, drag it as needed to get hard edges.
