Having trouble select existing text to edit

Can't seem to select existing text from its own layer to edit. I click on the T tool and when I try to edit the existing text by clicking on it creates a new text layer.

This seems weird.

Anyway I have 3 options you could try instead to select your text:

  1. Check if your layer isn't locked. This seems like it's locked; or,
  2. At the layer panel, find your text layer and double click at the T on the left, it will select your text; or,
  3. Doesn't matter the tool you are using, just double click at your text on your canvas, this will also select the text already.

Both ways you don't need to select the text tool before doing it.

I think I figured it out. There must have been an update. I received a notification when reopening Photoshop that my old text layers needed updating. I agreed to allow Photoshop to do this for me and it didn't help. I created a new text layer and the new layer works as I would expect. Not really a solution but I can just delete the olde text layers and replacement with new ones. Weird is right.
