How do I cut an object out of one photo and superimpose it on part of another photo?

Greetings - am new to this forum, and Photoshop. Have a good handle of editing basics and tools, now need help merging part of one photo into another photo. Simple stuff but I stumbled at the online tutorial, maybe because I didn't grasp the terminology. Does anyone have a cheat-sheet on this? Am using Photoshop CC 2017.0.1.

How good are you with Layers & Masks?  Masking allows you to isolate areas in an image and place it on its own layer either on top of or below another layer.

When you have created your composite image, you may save it in another format, such as a JPG for distributing to others or maybe using on a website. This will flatten the image, it's important to keep your original layered PSD file as often you will need to return to it to make further changes.
