How do I fill in a hollow font?

Guest

I am using a block style font that is hollow.  That is you can see through it to whatever is below it.  How do I fill it in with a solid color?  I tried the overlay color, but it colors the "black" part of the font.  Clearly, I do not want to fillin parts that should not be (e.g. the center of the letter "O").

Thanks.

Make an empty layer above the text layer. On the text layer, click the hollow spaces with the magic wand. On the empty layer, fill with color.

It depends on the font and size and line thickness, but for thicker outlined hollow fonts I will select the interior of the font, expand the selection a pixel or so, then add a layer BELOW the font and fill the under-layer it as needed.
