How to Make a Font with Default Blending Options for Memes

New Here ,
Mar 09, 2017 Mar 09, 2017

Hi,

I've searched all over and cannot find an answer; however, it seems like something Photoshop should be able to do pretty easily.  I make memes a lot, and rather than use a meme generator, I would prefer to use photoshop.  Obviously, the way to make meme text is by using the impact font, and then using Stroke on it to create a black border.  I was wondering if there was a way to create a font that was Impact and already stroked by default.  Taking the extra few clicks to stroke it isn't that big of a deal, but I would imagine PS has a feature that where I can just go into an image, choose my own custom stroked Impact font, and use it right away.  Is this possible?  Thanks!

You'd have to modify the font, generate the font, and install it into your system. This usually involves buying another application that can edit and output font formats.

If you just need this style in Photoshop for memes, you might prefer this simpler way:

  1. Set up some text using the Impact font. At this point the color doesn't matter.
  2. Apply the black stroke using a layer style (Layer > Layer Style > Stroke or from the fx button at the bottom of the Layers panel).
  3. Apply a white fill using the Color

  1. Set up some text using the Impact font. At this point the color doesn't matter.
  2. Apply the black stroke using a layer style (Layer > Layer Style > Stroke or from the fx button at the bottom of the Layers panel).
  3. Apply a white fill using the Color Overlay style from the same dialog box. Click OK. At this point you should see in the Layers panel that Effects are added to that type layer. You can save the combination of effects as a layer style for later use.
  4. Open the Styles panel (Window > Styles), and click the Create New Style button. Give it a name and click OK.

Now that you have a saved style for that text, in the future you can just select a type layer and then in one click, apply the saved style from the Styles panel. When you click the saved style, it will apply a white fill and black stroke.

Another way around this to edit in the same psd that you have already made. It will cut short the process as you will have to type out the text in the layer which will have all the layer styles applied already and then you just have to change the image.Using the same psd should do the trick!

What might be helpful would be if you paste an example here.  Then people could tell you the font used, and layer styles applied.  Saving that layer style, as outlined by Conrad, would make it supper easy to recreate the effect thereafter.
