HUNDREDS OF PRESETS CAN ONLY BE IMPORTED ONE AT A TIME

When I upgraded from CS 2017 to CS 2020 I thought that I could import all my customized and third-party Presets and Plugins by simply copying the contents of the corresponding folders from the older version to the newer one. After all, this is what I have been doing for more than a decade without any problems.

 

Not anymore.

 

My Styles do not show up automatically, nor do Brushes, Shapes and so forth. There is an option to Import, but that only allows for ONE single Style/Brush/Etc. at a time. There is no option to select a folder or the ability to select multiple files at once. This is definitely not a viable way to do it when one has several hundreds of such things to include.

 

Using the Import/Export Presets, where I can see all my Presets at once, ask Photoshop to import them all, wait for severla minutes while that is done, and restating Photoshop after the importing is finished, does not make any difference.

 

Using the Toolbar or the Windows menu to reach the Presets, as suggested by some, does not make any difference. 

 

I am running Photoshop on a Windows 10 computer and I do not have the previous installation anymore, just the Plugins and Presets folders.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have problem to load/import multiple action/brush and so on sets in Photoshop? Have you tried using File > Open command? Perhaps it sounds strange but give it a try. Select multiple sets in Open dialog then click Open button and Photoshop should load/import all selected sets.

Plug-in need to be installed as do scripts. Copying then into the Photoshop version folders should work. Or like I do  link Photoshop versions folders to your Scripts and Plug-in folders. Worked for me in 2020.   I had the installer migrate my presets during the install of 2020.  You can try using menu Edit>Presets>Migrate Presets or Edit>Presets>Export/Import Presets.  Copying Presets files also should work however Adobe added Groups to Styles, shapes and Patterns  also added new panels for Shapes and patterns. While removing some Presets Manages functions.

Regarding the Presets, as I mentioned in my initial post, copying folder contents and did not work, nor did using the import/export menu.

 

Perhaps I was not clear as to the nature of the problem... I can access the Presets through Photoshop, but ONLY importing them ONE at a time. Even the Brushes show up in a list but, when one is selected, a dialogue box opens for the importing of that particular Brush alone.Similar things happen to Shapes and so on.

Not really very viable for a large collection of Presets.

I had no problem on windows10 doing what you state does not work on your windows machine.

 

Are you sure you copied your plug-in you install in you old PS versions  plug-in folder into

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Plug-ins\"

 

That you copied scripts you install in you old PS versions scripts folder into

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Presets\Scripts\"

 

 

Presets should be able to be migrated. If not the preferences files  from old  version can be copied into your user ID Preferences for the new Photoshop version Userid Preferences. Only some file should be copied. Adobe make features changes You need to be careful copying preference between versions.

From:

"C:\Users\(UserID)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Adobe Photoshop (version)\ Settings\" 

To:

"C:\Users\(UserID)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Adobe Photoshop 2020 Settings\" 

Not all some Files like:

Actions Palette.psp

Brushes.psp

CustomShapes.psp

Patterns.psp

Styles.psp

 

Also workspaces can be copied

from:

"C:\Users\(UserID)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Adobe Photoshop (version)\ Settings\WorkSpaces\" 

to

"C:\Users\(UserID)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Adobe Photoshop 2020 Settings\WorkSpaces\"
