I am getting 2 different results from using the halftone filter
The desired result is where the halftone pattern gets smaller and goes to completely blank in white spaces.

I get this result from photos that I download from google or other places on the internet.
Also, I get these results from images that don't even have blown out highlights or anything, and the halftone filter still leave blank spaces on the images where it is the lightest, but not necessarily blown out.
The result I am getting fills in large white spaces with more halftone dots:

I get this result from photos I have taken myself on my dslr.
I blew out the highlights to the extreme in this photo, and it still fills the blank space with dots.
This does this regardless of image size.
I have tried saving the photo as a smaller size and putting it through the halftone filter and I get the same results.
I have put both photos through the exact same filter, and done nothing else.
Also notice that the image from example 1, the halftone dots get smaller in lighter spaces, but in example 2, the halftone dots stay the same size throughout.
I would like to get results like the first example on photos I have taken, but it just won't work no matter how much I blow out the whites. whats the deal? This is frustrating.
Thanks.
