I can't add text in Photoshop CC

i can't add text to any of my photo's i want to edit. i noticed it yesterday when i wanted to add text to a gif and it refused. i thought maybe being unable to add text to a .gif is a norm, a dumb one, but normal i wouldn't put it past adobe. however, earlier i tried adding text to a stationary photo and nothing happened. a text layer appears in the panel so its 'there' somewhere, but text nor a cursor appears anywhere. i've enlarged the text to the largest font size and no changed happened. i've reset the preferences twice and restarted the program and nothings' worked. i've even went back and attempted to redo the tutorial to see if there was a random step i've missed or forgotten about. nope. nothing. the only thing that shows is a tiny black box which moves the text around.

even with a text box. nothing.

i'm getting more and more pissed by the second, i need help. >.<

Can you post a screen shot of your entire screen, including the layers?

I know you reset the preferences, but give this a shot:

Adobe Complete Reset of Adobe Preferences #340 - YouTube

Hope you find this helpful

Are your menu items in PS working?

How are you opening the image? Directly, from Bridge, from Lightroom?

I asked because there is an issue opening from Lightroom and Bridge. You are not affected the way you are opening files 🙂
