Cant save due to program error! 

After spending hours working on a project and suddenly cant save due to program error!  This has been the ongoing situation every single time I work on photoshop since the update to vs 22 .......  I have read others complaints of this issue and the solutions posted and so far none have worked for me. This has all sprung up since the update so leads me to believe this bug is in the update. I do hope that Adobe is working to figure this out ASAP because this is unacceptable.  I pay alot of money every month for these programs and invest hours upon hours of my life working on these programs and not having the ability to save my work is simply unacceptable!  I am so frustrated right now I am ready to scream!

Which OS version and how much RAM and spare disk capacity do you have? 

Can you give details of the erorr messages or what process you were undertaking when the isssue(s) occured?

Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preferences?

(The latest version of Photoshop is 22.1)

I use PS22.1. I would sure like to know how to fix this, too. I am in the same boat as LizzyLove (I'm already screaming!). I get "can't save due to a program error" whenever I try to save (both on the cloud or on my computer). I went back to an earlier version in hopes that will work. It's so very frustrating.

Micheal did you have any luck rolling back to an older version?  I am attempting to do that now as I am at a loss of what else to do at this point.

I have 931 GB of RAM and 713 GB of FREE RAM .....   I can't save in any format, Ive updated to 22.1 in hopes that would resolve the issue as it was supposedly going to address "BUGS" but no suck luck.   Here is a screenshot of the error message.......   and I have tried resetting photoshop preferences.

I just rolled back to version 21.2.4 and so far so good, I have been saving and I have not encountered the program error as of yet.  Fingers crossed it doesn't rear its ugly head again lol   And hopefully Adobe can get this bug worked out of the 22 versions sooner then later.

Being the big Adobe Photoshop fan, that I am. I'm having the "Can not save due to a program error" issue like so many others.

I sometimes have luck in saving by hiding all layers- sometimes this works. Restarting 
PS. 2021 works for a while as well, but the error returns. Thing is, I don't think it is Adobe , I'm having issues with Corel Designer as well,( I got it for Christmas) . I have a hunch the problem is Microsoft. I'm using an updated winows 10 pro/32 gb Ram, and 4 total security programs- no virus issues here. Did anyone notice this error problem prior to the latest windows update?

I'm very frustrated by this error message too. I can save if I turn off any layers brought in from a PDF. But I can't print with all of the layers on. Yesterday I completely uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop. Then it worked. Today I'm back to the error message again. Ugh!!

Have you tried installing the 21.2.4 version?  I did that earlier today and have been using it all day without any issues.

Try using Adobe Cleaner before reinstalling Photoshop:

OMG it is happening to me now.  I have lost 2 hours of work.  I am not sure how to roll back to previous versions, so I will just have to wait for Adobe to fix the bug. I agree, it is so frustrating. I have just given up.

Thanks Derek.  It is PhotoShop PS version 22.1.  I might try what others have now suggested and roll back.

When you are in the creative Cloud app and click the menu on the right side of the Photoshop app it will give you the option to install older version

Hey I've also been suffering through this issue and tried a ton of stuff that didn't work!  I finally got it to work, though, thanks to a comment on here Photoshop: Can't save file due to program error | Photoshop Family Customer Community .

I have no idea why or how this works, but select the background layer and then make sure all other layers and everything are deselected, and also turn them off.  It's a bit inconvenient since you have to turn all the other layers off apart from your bg layer, but it should at least allow you to save progress on the file until you can either flatten and merge all your layers/send your PSD to someone and inform them that they will have to turn all your other layers back on.

For the time being this is working for me, unlike your issue, mine will not save at all even after multiple attempts.  I've heard from different people that it's potentially an issue with RAM or cached data, but none of the solutions offered up to fix those scenarios has worked in my case.  It sounds like it must be some kind of PS bug, but I still have no idea what/where the problem is and/or comes from.  The link that JJMack​ posted to is just suggesting that perhaps it's your PSD itself that has some sort of corrupted data in it.  I have no idea if there's anything we can do about the corruption itself, unfortunately."

Someone said above that you can't save after cropping. If we wanted to crop, we had to check the box "Remove cropped pixels" I did and it worked for me. Maybe the problem will come back later but for now it's working.
