Question

I need help with PS 6 - Camera Raw Updates

I am running PS 6, and my current Camera Raw version is 9.0. I want to update my Camera Raw so my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD Model F017 will be supported. I believe I need at least Camera Raw version 9.6 to have this Tamron lens supported from what I have read.

Supported lenses

I went to this URL (Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows)

and downloaded the Adobe DNG Converter 9.1 and installed it, but I think this is not what I want for the actual Camera Raw Updates. When I opened Camera Raw after downloading the DNG Converter 9.1, my Camera Raw still says 9.0 in the upper left hand corner.

1) Did I download the wrong files to update Camera Raw?

2) What is the most recent update of Camera Raw that my PS 6 version will accept? (I read that PS6 will only upgrade to a certain version of Camera Raw...is this true?)

(I understand that I will have to update Camera Raw in the order that the updates were released [no skipping updates].)

Can I please get some help and answers to my questions.

Thank you,

Julius Titak

As long as the camera your using is covered by camera raw 9.1.1 in photoshop cs6, installing the latest adobe 9.10 dng converter should make that lens profile available in photoshop cs6's camera raw 9.1.1.

Oh and camera raw updates are cumulative, meaning you install whatever the latest camera raw plugin your photoshop can use, in your case 9.1.1, so need to install any past updates for camera raw.

For that lens, it looks like you need ACR 9.6, which CS6 can't use. While you can use a DNG converter for cameras, I believe lenses is another matter. I don't think you can use a dng converter and have the converted files recognize newer lenses. The DNG just converts the camera's chip data into a form that CS6 can use.

In which case, the Lightroom and Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan would give access to the updated lens profiles and more.

If you mean CS6 (v 13), the highest ACR is 9.1.1, no further.

For camera models that go beyond that, yes you will need the dng converter.

Just to verify, I have Camera Raw 9.0. I updated to Camera Raw 9.1, but when I open Camera Raw it still shows 9.0.

How do I verify that the download of CR 9.1 actually worked? It said installed. I don't want to download CR 9.1.1 until I can verify 9.1 was installed correctly.

Note: The Tamron lens is in my Lens Correction list, but possibly it was there before and I missed it.

In regards to the DNG Converter: If I needed to use it, can I just download the most recent version while skipping previous versions?

By the way people...all good information!

Gene, you helped me with the reload of PS6  about 3 years ago...not forgotten!

Thanks again,

Julius

If it is not updating, go here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats folder  (assuming windows) or

HD /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS6/File Formats folder (Mac)

If there are any Camera Raw 8bi files there, move them to the desktop, and run the installer again.

It might be the installer can't overwrite the old one for some reason.
