Intel(R) HD Graphics = New 3D Layer from File... grayed out

Hi,

I've got a win 7 laptop running PS cc (19.1.4).  The laptop has Intel R HD Graphics.  OpenGL is enabled but the New 3D Layer from File and other 3D stuff is grayed out.

Am I screwed, or is there something I can do?   I want to import a 3D model...

Not completely sure, but I've had major issues with Intel graphics cards - sometimes they work, most the time they don't with PS. PS checks the status and features of the graphics card, and doesn't rely on the OS to do this, so if the card doesn't respond properly, PS grays things out. It's a real pisser!

Thanks for the replies.  Intel R HD ain't on the list.  So I guess I'm stuck with 2D.

Just before you give up - New 3D layer from file only applies if you already have a document open and that document is in RGB image mode. Can you confirm that?

If you don't already have a document open then you just use File>Open on the 3D object

That shows the issue. You are running the 32 bit version due to a 32 bit operating system. 3D requires the 64 bit version.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, Dave!  I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out why my HD 530 card wasn't "good enough" to enable 3D on Photoshop CC 2018 and was nearing the point of buying a new video card, but your comment about having to be in RGB mode was exactly what I needed!  The images I was using to try to apply as a new mesh layer on a cube were in CMYK mode, as I am working on something for print material.

The answer is it might work but it might not.  You are using Intel integrated graphics rather than a dedicated GPU. Some have got that to give functionality but others have not. Unfortunately I can't test that here as I use a dedicated AMD GPU.
