Invert layer changing colors for no reason

I having some trouble. Suddenly the invert layer is turning my work from black and white to black and pinkish. I tried checking saturation levels to no avail. The image is already black and white but the invert layer is making it not black and white but inverting it to a strange color. Anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated!

You can also change your mode to grayscale first, to not have color casts, and level aftwards if needed.

Sounds like the original black wasn't a true black. Try adding a levels adjustment before inverting.

forgot about that. That worked. Still this shouldn't have been happening. I am perplexed as to why it did. Never had it happen randomly in 10 years.

Have you used your info pallete & eyedropper to  troubelshoot? What values were you getting?

For example on CMYK file filing with the default black you get

if you invert (100% i original value)you get a peachy color

This might also be a color profile/manangement issues.
