Is it possible to use the difference blend mode to create mask of the difference between layers?

Hi, yes by selecting the black once you apply the selection (black = no difference) and *using the selection.

Thanks a lot for your effort, but that's not what I meant
Let's assume the following: I have 2 identical images of a bedroom one without a vase in a corner and the other one with a vase, both images are identical in everything except for the vase; the question is how to make a selection of that vase using the difference blend mode without using any selection tools?

hi.
I think what you are trying to achieve is not best done with the workflow (difference blend mode) that you're trying to adopt. Also, any difference you achieve will always require selection, choosing a blend mode will not automatically created selection. That said let me show you a better way of what you are trying to achieve, is little bit more advanced than simply choosing a blend mode...

and by doing that if you just want to show the Vase as per you eg you can without a selection.
