Layer Comps to Files_w_PNG

Hi everyone, Maybe someone can help with this unusual problem,

I’ve successfully created 8 bit PNG files using “Export/ Layer Comps to Files_w_PNG” since the fall of 2018.

Following the latest Photoshop update to “20.0.3” on a MAC running OS 0.12.6 (16G1212) Sierra, the “Export/ Layer Comps to Files_w_PNG” I have the following problems:

Color Space is now “index” (index is unchecked).

Transparency now forms a solid white perimeter around the transparent area.

No longer do I need to add an underscore to the filename (which I am totally OK with).

Any help with why this is happening will be greatly appreciated.

Attached is a snap of the settings and "solid white perimeter around the transparent area"

Thank you,

Kevin

Open the original file and see if it says index or RGB. I am thinking Image>Mode is set to index in the original. Just change the mode to RGB. Then exporting will export an RGB file instead of Index.

As far as the new png file goes, just change the mode to RGB, then fix your drop shadow and you are done.

A color image exported as PNG 8 bit will be saved and therefore re-open in Indexed color - that is how PNG 8 bit works - 8 bits used to represent colours from a 256 color pallette.

If you want 8bits/channel then you would need to export as PNG-24.

Look at the tab at the top of your image. It will tell you the mode, RGB, CMYK, Index, etc.
Another way to verify, select the image menu then choose mode then verify it does not say Index. This is where you would actually change the mode.
If you still have problems capture your entire screen and share it in this thread.

Thank you for your response. I will try too explain what happens in more detail.

The export is run from a PSD file that has all the layer comps named to obtain the preferred results. The attached example shows:

    1. A PNG is successfully produced and named.

    2. File layer adopts the “index” naming convention.

    3. File indicates it is in an indexed color space.

When I upload the file to the DAM the image color does not poses the range an s-RGB file.

The work around is to select a “File Type: PNG-24” which can be a larger file than what's needed. If the files are too large I throw them into “ImageOptim” to create a smaller sized file. I would like for the 8 bit export to work because there can but up to 50 layer comps in a file and the extra steps add up.

    Thanks again!
