Need help ready to give up [Photoshop CC 2018: how to extract image from background and create thumbnail?]

I am trying to make YouTube thumbnails. I currently use Adobe spark but want to use Photoshop. I watched about 10 hours of tutorial, including Adobe and none has helped. My Photoshop CC does not react to how the videos show. Is there a better resource? I'll pay someone to coach/help me!! Please I don't want to give up

When it comes to Thumbnail I always prefer Tubebuddy thumbnail maker. Which allows running different A/b test. It is easy to use and totally safe.

Ok new screencast being uploaded momentarily. I still cannot get any of this to work guys. I'm sorry. I am following all the directions and it still cannot cut that little doll out, delete original background, and place on new solid color layer.

Here is the screen cast of the new video. I am starting with a new window, coloring it, laying a picture on top of it, cutting what i want out of the picture, saving selection, crtl, shift, I, add mask, delete, then all that happens is the doll gets deleted.

In order to get rid of the background around the area you want to keep, if the layer is Background, click the padlock icon to unlock it. That converts it to a regular layer. If it is already a regular layer, that's good. (A Background layer cannot have transparency and you cannot put any layers underneath it.

Control Shift i is the keyboard shortcut to invert the selection so that the area outside the selection becomes selected. You can then hit the Delete key to delete the area you don't want. However, I prefer to work with masks, so what I would do is not inverse the selection. Once you have the area you want to keep selected, just click the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers panel. That will hide the area outside the selection and give you more flexibility if you need to edit the mask.

Then you can put another layer underneath that layer with whatever background you want to use.

I'm sorry but this doesn't work. In my video you can see that I am trying that and it's not working. Something else has to be wrong.

What do you mean by "this doesn't work"? What specifically?

I have watched your video and everything seems to be fine except you do not hit Delete after inserting the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I).

    Hi

    Try the following

Make your initial document (uncheck artboard in File new, you don't need it) and fill the background as required.

Use File place embedded to bring in your image on a new layer

With that new image layer selected in the layers panel, make a selection of teh part you want to use then use Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal selection. That will hide everything on teh image layer that you did not select.
You can add other layers the same way. When finished save as a PSD with all layers intact.

Now go to File >Export>Save for web and export as a jpeg - checking the boxes to convert to sRGB and embed profile. That is the version that you can use for your you tube thumbnail

If you want to produce simple videos to post on things like social media maybe this new application Premiere Rushes might be worth a look: https://www.adobe.com/uk/products/premiere-rush.html

And here's an excellent online video tutorial (you can get 30-days free): Premiere Rush First Look

    Hi

It is hard to give any advice as you have not really described what problem you have encountered.

    So a few questions :

    1. What version of Photoshop are you using?

    2. What operaating system are you using it on?

    3. What version of Photoshop is being used in the video you are trying to follow?
    4. What are you being asked to do in the video that is not working in your version (screenshots would help here)
