Not Able to Open/Import Animated Gifs

Hello!

Within the last week, I have been encountering a problem where I seem to be unable to open animated gifs in Photoshop. The gif has been recorded and saved on my computer, but dragging the file into the software or opening it through the file menu results in a "could not complete your request because decompression error has occurred" message. If I try to instead import video frames to layers, I receive the message "Could not complete the Video Frames to Layers command because the file could not be opened."

The gifs were recorded using software from gifrecorder.com, and I was able to open and edit other gifs from the same source previously. Static gifs open without problems. I have tried closing and relaunching Photoshop, rebooting my computer, and updating to 20.0.3 (the problem started happening before I updated).

Is there anything else that I can try? Does anyone know why this might be occurring?

Does the Gif file animate in a web browser. Drop the gif on your browser. It sounds like the file is corrupt.

Yes, the gifs animate as expected in a web browser, when uploaded to a site, and when viewed in Microsoft Photos.

It seems the the Photoshop can not decode this animated gif create by gifrecorder.com software. Perhase if to use that software to re-save the animated gif there may be additional options in it save dialog that cans save an animated gif that will be compatible with Photoshop gif processing code.  The code seem to be in Photoshop itself. For there is no plug-in in required\plug-in\file format\  for supporting gif files.

For anyone else looking in the future, my workaround for the gifs I've already recorded is:

  1. In the Animated Gif Editor software that comes with Gif Recorder, export the gif as an avi.
  2. In Photoshop, import the frames to layers.

Going forward, I'll be using different recording software that seems to have fewer difficulties.
