Question

Opacity glitch?

I have a very simple issue - when I type in a number for opacity, it wants to type it backward! Say it's at 100%, and I type "50" into the opacity bar. A majority of the time it will type the 5, and the 0 will appear infront of it and make it 5%. I'm using the number pad on my keyboard to type it and numlock is on. It's not a big deal, because I just have to retype the opacity and it's fine, but it's a little inconvenient and odd. Does anyone know why it's doing this? And possibly how to keep it from doing it? It slows me down and I really don't like having to retype the opacity almost every time.

Thanks!

I have the same problem. It's been this way since before the last update, and the last update didn't fix it. Incredibly annoying.

Not an answer to your question but in case you didn't know it's faster and easier to not type numbers in the Opacity bar. Instead just type 5 (for 50%), 6 for 60 % and so on. (do not click in the Opacity bar)

Typing 0 gives 100 %. Typing 00 in quick succession gives 0 %. Typing say 45 in quick succession gives  45 %. etc

The only thing you must be aware of is that NO brush tool (brush, stamp, healing brush etc) must be the active tool or this will set the opacity of the tool instead of the layer! (I mostly chose a marquee tool or the move tool to be the active tool but others are fine too as long it's not a "drawing" tool.

I had no idea! That's so helpful! Though it was the tool opacity I was having a problem with (not layers). I just tested your method in photoshop and my mind is blown! Better than what I was doing, lol. Thanks!

Hi Cara,

The first thing to check is if you have a Middle Eastern keyboard with right to left typing. Can you confirm that?
