Opening MPO files in Photoshop

Is there a way to open MPO files in Photoshop so that they open directly as a two layer file?

For some reason they always go through a 3D conversion resulting in an ugly anaglyph (red/blue) file. I then have to strip out the original two layer file to use it. See attachments.
MPO files are basically a layered jpeg. They are typically used in 3D photos. The two layers represent left and right views. This anaglyph conversion process is unnecessary.

PS: In the beta version of Photoshop 13, these opened directly as a two layered document.

But how did you strip out the original two layer file?
