Option for transparent background is missing

Can anyone tell me how to chose the transparent background when creating a new document?  In the drop down list, there is only the possibility to select white, black and color.  It used to be that you could just pick transparent, and done.  Unless I am missing something?  I'm still pretty new to Ps CC.

Thanks in advance

Juliette

Have you tried scrolling down. That new document dialogue has a not so obvious scroll bar on the right hand edge.

First, confirm that your Color Mode is not set to Bitmap.

Then, for an immediate workaround, open a new file, with white background. drag the lock in the Layers panel alongside the layer to the Trash, choose Cmd+A and strike the Delete key.

To resolve the problem, try resetting Preferences and restarting Photoshop. Choose Preferences > General. The Preferences Reset option is presented there.

Thank you for replying.  I can confirm that Color Mode was before and still is set to RGB.  Also your temporary solution works fine.  I have reset the preferences and restart the program, but it still shows only White, Black and Color background, no Transparent and also no Other as shown in your screenshot.  Anything else you can suggest?  Of course with the little trick you explained I can live without this option for now ...  Btw. my screen looks different when creating a new document, I have only recently gotten this Ps CC version.

    Thank you,

The difference you are referring to is the result of my preferring this alternate format. You can try it by going to Preferences > General > and check-marking Use legacy "New Document" interface. After trying it, If you prefer your current setup, just go back and uncheck it.

By the way, an alternate workaround is to open a new file, click the new layer symbol at the bottom of the Layer panel (it will add a blank layer) then Trash the Background layer.
