I've just started advanced photography at school and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to outline specific outlines, or if there are any plugins out there that could help me with it.

Hi Kyle.  As JJ has suggested, we need to know what you mean by outline?   Are you trying to produce line art from photographs for instance?

There are many tool and filters in Photoshop to help you make selection. And filters like menu Filter>Stylize>find edges.  The first thing you need to do is educate the gray matter between your ears then exercise it, use the knowledge. You starting out right educational part 1.... Please do not try skipping the basics you need a good foundation.... You do not learn digital editing overnight and you never stop learning things about Photoshop it keeps changing....been using it for 20+ years....

Outlining an object involves "making a Selection" and there are several ways to do it with the most accurate method dependent upon the specific image and the color and complexity of the object and area surrounding the object. Learn about the command Stroke, as well. I suggest you check out the videos on YouTube to learn about your options. Yes, there are plug-ins, but they may not be necessary.
