Only thing that worked for me was going back to 22.2

I just had this issue today. That's two major PS issues in the last couple of months. This is supposed to be a premium product but lately it has been quite less than a premium experience.

I'm having an enormous amount of trouble with this as well. Tried checking off the "use graphics processor" option but no go. Trying to downgrade now. Creative Cloud is way too expensive for this kind of nonsense.

Me too..  The whole program locks up.  Downloading another bug fix install now to see if that helps

This is happening to me too, at the moment Photoshop is so frustrating, one problem after another, causing me hours of lost workflow. Please sort it out, or I will have to look at alternative software.

Couldn't even get to my Preferences file to make that correction as I was locked out of that as well due to a "Program Error". Really awful update. I just deleted the 2021 version and rolled back to the 2020 iteration. That one works without a hitch so I think I'll just keep running that from now on. Seems every update is more buggy and a bigger memory hog than the last one.

I seem to remember a previous update a few months back was causing problems and the advice then was to uncheck the graphics processor ... it would seem that upgrades have caught up with this problem and now an 'unchecked ' graphics processor has become 'the problem'.  I have followed the 'correct answer' advice and so far function has been resored tot the crop tool.

I downgraded to 21.x and the issue went away. Been leery of installing any
update that isn't 22.4 or higher.

Having exactly the same issue - just started. Having to ctrl alt dlt to get out of it - very frustrating. Will have to roll back the version as it worked perfectly.

I have an AMD Radeon GPU RX 570 Series card 8 Gig.  Windows 10 with 32 Gigs. Same problem.  Suddenly, use of Crop immediately locked up Photoshop 2021. Worked fine 4 weeks ago.  I've spend a lot of time trying to find solution.  Reinstalled Radeon software, as per Adobe suggestion.  No change. Got around it by Cropping in Lightroom before loading into Photoshop.  A pain. Many thanks to Nabur for noticing the "Use Graphic Processor".  Mine was unchecked as well. I certainly had not changed that, so clearly it was changed in the last Photoshop update. One I checked the Use Graphic Processor" box again, Crop worked fine.

Updates are supposed to fix stuff, not break stuff!

At least you guys can get in to your Preferences. I click on anything in that menu and get "Could Not Complete The Performance Command Because Of A Program Error". I've been in limbo over this garbage for a day now. Honestly ready to find a new program.
