Question

Photoshop 2020 Actions not saving correctly

As part of an 'action' that  I use to process my photos for print, Photoshop 2019 would save .tif file to the same folder as the original .jpg image. Now Photoshop 2020 comes up with: In: File or folder not found, and doesn't know where to save it. Can something be done to fix this?

Also when saving the final .tif, Photoshop 2019 would warn me and not save if there was an existing .tif. Now Photoshop 2020 goes and overrights the original file. Which is not what we want to happen, as we are creating a smaller image for the newspaper and want the original image to remain for future use. Can something be done to fix this?

What OS version are you using. On my windows 10 system I am not seeing any files or folder not found problems. Also on Windows  A Save As from Photoshop UI will open a  dialog asking if you want you overwrite an existing file if the file exists. However a Save as step recorded in actions save over existing files  on my workstation in CS6, CC 2019 and PS 2020. Recording the action if the file exist I will gets the dialog.  If it does not exist I will not get the dialog. If I record an action  where the output filed does not exists the action step recorded  will overwrite  existing files when played if it exist without opening  the do you want to overwrite the file dialog.  I recorded actions and tested action using CS6, CC 2019 and PS 2020.  The three Photoshop versions work the same way.  Are you using a Mac?

Operating system is Mac Siri. Just updated to Adobe Photoshop 2020 last week, this was working on Photoshop 2019, where the action would put the .tif image at the end of the action, into the same folder and the original .jpg image.

I heard from a fellow designer that the folder was being found when she works with images on her computer. However I am working to a server.

The only Actions I see problem with  are action that add adjustment layers.  Adobe added the Adjustment Panel in CS4 with a fly-out menu with a couple of item that can change how adjustment layer are added sometimes. So actions that add Adjustment Layer may not work the way they were  recorded.  Adobe should remove those menu items  so Adjustment layer will be added in consistent way like they are in versions prior to CS4. Since CS4 Action recorded in any Photoshop version that adds Adjustment may have problems. Adjustment layers are not added in a consistent way. The way they are added may be changed  by the state the Adjustment Panel's menu items. However,  that may not be the case for some actions.  For the Adjustment layers are not always added the way the menu items are set.   If the is an active selection the Adjustment layer will be added with a layer mask. It does not matter which way the menu item is  set. Also Recording an add Adjustment Layer using the Add Adjustment Layer Dialog  and checking clipped to previous layer will always  clipped clip the layer it make no difference which way the menu item is set.  So if you record a select all then add an Adjustment layer via the dialog and check clip to Previous layer, The recorded step will always play like it was recorded the Adjustment layer will be added with a layer mask and clipped.  So I can fix actions the may have problem. I gave up on Adobe fixing the problem. It a bug they acknowledge then the with drew my bug reports.
