Question

Photoshop can't save file due to error

I occasionally have the problem with resaving open .psd or .psb file. Workaround is to save it with different name, but if you have 2GB plus file, you don't want to store so much files. Yesterday I restarted comp and stopped getting the error. Resaving .psb file worked (progress percentage goes up to 100% without getting an error). However, today I found, that there is still only first version of my .psb file on my disk (google drive file stream, but allowed to offline storage). It's absolute crap, what they produce in Adobe. 6 hrs work gone!

By default, the computer saves PSB files to a Temporary folder (like it uses for auto-save files). Did you notice the location in which you saved your file? I suspect that the issue with resaving had happened due to the temporary folder being invisible by default. If we know your operating system, we may be able to give you directions to view that directory.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. I always save my files to specific project folder. I also tried to find most recent version of this file on whole disk and also on my google drive to no avail. In my project folder I also unhided invisble files. Operating system is Mac OS 10.15.7.

Photoshop for Mac have long time known bugs like this one. Also one other is very annoying - when I open some recent file and do some changes in it, resaving to JPEG is always making another copy of file, instead of rewriting original JPEG file. Photoshop is doing this almost for one year, no bug fixes touched this. The only workaround is using quick save. But whole behavior makes no sense. It's reported many times and continually ignored by Adobe.
