Photoshop cannot use 3D : graphic processor disabled - AMD RX 580

Dear all,

When I go to Preferences -> Performance, there is no "Graphic processor" displayed.
When I try to open 3D objects, it fails and a popup says that "OPENGL is disabled".
I need to open 3D models for my work, so this is really really an issue.
It seems I am not the first one to face this but I have tried everything proposed online so far: reinstalling photoshop, deleting preferences, deleting sniffer.exe... Nothing worked. I contacted the online support: they could not do better.
I use Windows 7 professional 64 bits, up to date.
In short: 

- GPU Radeon RX 580 series, 8 GB
- Radeon software version 20.4.2, up to date (20-06-2020).

Something seems wrong file a bug report on photoshop feedback web site that sniffer is crashing on you rsystem. In your system info I set this.

Actually, I think this message is showing up because I deleted the sniffer file, as advised by the support. Before doing this test, there was something mentioned which looked like ok, instead of this error message. But still the graphic processor was undetected in the performance window.

I am now trying (yet another) "clean" install of Photoshop, to see what's the normal message in the system info.

Interesting fact: in Adobe Illustrator, the GPU is detected normally and GPU details are displayed as expected, with ATI Radeon blablabla. 
However, in the GPU performance feature window (there are 2 information space in Ilustrator, contrary to Photoshop), the checkbox is greyed out and there is the following message: "To use the GPU performance feature with your current graphic card, upgrade your OS". This is the feature: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-preview-improvements.html

So it could be that, in Photoshop, the GPU is not detected because of incompatilibity of the sniffer or something with Windows 7. Which is still a bug and very annoying. 

EDIT: Actually not, GPU performance is only for NVDIA. I have an AMD, so this is why the checkbox is greyed out in the first instance, most likely.

CONCLUSION: Adobe Illustrator detects the GPU normally, while Adobe Photoshop doesn't... Yey 😕

Ok so I launched the photoshop sniffer exe manually, and despite the fact that the CMD windows closes itself automatically, thanks to the gamer reflex in me I made a screenshot and found the following error message:

GenerateAndWriteSnifferReport: Mantaexception HRRESULT error: this interface is not compatible

GenerateAndWriteSnifferReport: Mantaexception = No available platform meets requirements.

Not sure if it has to do with the price of the butter, any idea?

In any case: I just installed the previous version of Photoshop (Version: 21.1.3) and taaadaaaa ! GPU detected !

Problem solved, temporarily at least. 

I am puzzled that the support didn't think about it though....

That system info shows that your GPU is being detected, so 3D should be available provided your document is in RGB mode

Thanks for taking care of my case,

I understand now that Photoshop recognizes GPU card. but it behaves in a way that makes me feel there is problem with the GPU or rendering at all. For example:

• Why brush preview is not showing when I Rightclick with mouse holding ALT.
• Why I see some black boxes ofer photoshop interface after working some times.
• Why my default brushes show exactly the same.
• When I select bigger brush the frame rate of the drawing with brush becomes very visible and discret

I did reset photoshop preference settings, Reinstalled several times, reset toolbar, reset from preset manager. etc. everything that was in troubleshooting page, even went and added Sniffer.exe to 3D settings again just to be sure.

Help please

This issue is really serious and keeps me from being creative. Please help I really dont want to go back to older photoshop version.

Try updating to 22.1.1 released today that sgould address issues around the brush preview

YEs! 2 of my issues were fixed. issues with brush preview and brush appearance in brushes window

I don't experience either of the other two issues here (lag, unless using an extremely large brush and canvas,  or black boxes) and use the same GPU. Make sure you use the NVidia studio drivers (not the game ready drivers).

Game ready drivers are released quickly to serve the gaming market. Studio drivers are tested more thoroughly with pro graphics applications. Although that means they are released less frequently, they are more likely to be reliable with such apps.
