Photoshop CC (2014) crashing on startup

Photoshop 2014 is crashing on startup after first time install.

Dialog appears "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 has stopped working"

It seems to happen within seconds of startup about 80% of the time. Other times it will not crash for minutes.

Anyone have any ideas. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks

    Correct answer Mylenium

Clear as crystal: it crashes in your graphics driver. Update it.

I am also in the same pool of having Adobe PhotoShop crash everything I try to open it even after having everything updated. Its not a graphics card issue, its and Adobe Systems issue that they are ignoring. I recently just purchased the Creative Cloud complete package and have yet to open Photoshop without having it crash or lock up other applications. I can't even have Photoshop and Illustrator open at the same time for some unknown reason. I just purchased this software a few weeks a go and unless it starts working I will go back to Gimp.

If the crash reports says it is crashing in your video card driver (and most of the reports do), then the problem is in the video card driver (which needs to be updated).

The second most common crash cause is bad piracy attempts, and the third most common is bugs in third party plugins.

Chris, this is really not a satisfactory response.

I have a Dell XPS-12-9Q33 (i7 4500U) with Intel HD Graphics (video driver 10.18.10.3960) and first saw this problem with the version of PS CC that ran a spawned executable to query the video driver's capability. I disabled the .EXE and lived without GPU enhancements for a while but then Adobe released a version of PS that didn't use the .EXE and it seemed to work fine. PS queried the video driver and enabled GPU enhancements. Therefore, this problem WAS FIXED for a while.

Mysteriously, now  though, the problem seems to have returned, and every time I start PS, the video driver crashes (and recovers) but PS won't enable the GPU enhancements. One time PS gave me a warning that it had "given up waiting for the video driver" and was disabling GPU features, but generally it just greys out the box and doesn't warn me.

Current version reported by PS CC is 20140730.r.148 x64

Again another solution for those with AMD INTEL Dual Graphics, who need newer drivers!

Try to do a clean instal of the leshcatlabs UnifL drivers !

    Hello militarybull,

Run NVidia Geforce Experience after that check update, if exist new driver start to install, wiz will guide what to do it. If you don't want online update, you can manually download installation for new driver, you have to know exactly model of your gc and your OS ver. I hope that I help you. Good luck.

Solutions I found for AMD users, who can't install "official" amd drivers:

    1. Remove the "aticaldd64.dll" from \system32   - I did it and it works now

    2. Get a newer copy of "aticaldd64.dll" from other notebook/PC and replace it

    3. Just try to play a little with this "aticaldd64.dll" and it will work.

I have now a working PS CC 2014 on HD3000 / HD 7470M switchable graphics.

Hello,Thanks for suggestions. My notebook has, a Intel I7 processor. But trick with renaming sniffer to deactivate it, succeeded. After that PS in all circumstance don't crashing anymore.

Disabling the sniffer just hides the problem (by not testing the driver for failures before using it).

Updating the driver to pick up bug fixes is the correct solution.

I believe it is the Catalyst Software and NOT the Driver, Uninstall the ALL Catalyst software and leave the Driver. OptiPlex 9010 - AMD HD 7570, it worked for me on two of them!

I think that I just find what is causing the crash on Mac OSX cause I run PS 2014 with root privilege and the process in the terminal window stopped when it ttys to lunch this:

    140735180497680> <DynamicLink> <5> Attempting to launch dynamiclinkmanager

    <140735180497680> <DynamicLink> <5> /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014.app/Contents/Required/DynamicLinkMediaServer/dynamiclinkmanager.app

terminal try to do this at least 4 times and after that Ps is ok.

If someone from Adobe here could help it aloud be good.

    Hello,

My Photoshop CC 2014 is crashing at startup too.

    I have the color wheel.

It never works since I download it.

I'm on Mac OS 10.9.5 with a Macbook pro late 2013 full option.

I try to delete preferences, re-install... and nothing is working.

My photoshop CC is working well.

If someone have an idear, I will be nice.

"not responding" is not even remotely the same thing as a crash. And this topic is about crashes on Windows (always due to someone's outdated video card driver).

Please create a new topic, and provide details so we can try to help you.

Same problem as everyone else.  I'm using an HP envy7 with Intel HD 4000 graphics.  Looks like I'm out of luck.  Boo!

Some people ARE finding new Intel drivers somewhere and installing them, after which they no longer have a "crash at startup" problem.  You shouldn't give up on finding those drivers, and there's no reason you can't pressure HP to make better Intel drivers available for their hardware.

    Best of luck.

    Hi,

Photoshop CC 2014 (not the CC) was crashing regularly at launch, but a retry was enough to have it working.

Since the last update, NO LUCK ! It crashes each time !

I've searched all over the web and encounters a problem listed : It's the second graphic driver, apart NVIDIA 650M's one, the INTEL GRAPHIC 4000 HD who seems to cause the crash.

OK, I followed some advices and deactivate it... I was happy : Photoshop CC 2014 was working after that.... but freezes after some minutes of use !! Even the CC's version freeze after some minutes of use with INTEL 4000 deactivated.

So, I have no other soluce, I've reactivated the display driver and use the old photoshop to work with, and I can say I'm unhappy !!!!

Hello, All. Just adding that updating the graphics driver seems to have resolved this issue for me (so far.)

In my particular case, I'm using a Sony Vaio with Win 7 and AMD Radeon HD 6630M. I downloaded and ran the update found here:

    Sony eSupport - VPCSA2EGX - Drivers & Software

Prior to that, a standard "update driver" procedure would tell me that mine was up-to-date. Apparently, it wasn't. (As confirmed by a new version number. This was an update vs. a re-install.)

    Hope that helps someone someday.

    Hi Guys

I have the same problem with photoshop crashing at lunch. I am not too computer savy but my Lenovo laptop is saying my AMD Radeon 6250 drivers is up to date for my software. Can someone give me the step by step instructions to update the driver to a newer version?

    Thanks

I don't know what to suggest you Josh (try to uncheck use graphic processor). Only final conclusion which I made is that crashes of PS CC 2014 happened only after standby, in other situation everything working ok. I will wait update 2 for Win 8.1 x64.

    What OS do you use?

    Thanks,

    Pedja.

I strongly suggest not using power saving states if you want your Windows system to be most stable.

It's not really Windows' doing, it's the device drivers, which are made by hardware manufacturers and delivered with Windows (or by people downloading from the web).  I'll wager that driver writers will never all get their power transition logic perfect.

Allowing your system to sleep or hibernate (better but still iffy) is asking for trouble.  I suggest you leave it on or shut it completely down.

This is a lot of decades experience as a software engineer talking.

An exception:  You can, with most modern video cards and display drivers, allow your monitor(s) to power down, which does save power and reduce heat, but even then it's been seen that the transition can cause problems.

    Thanks Noel,

For your precise explanations and suggestions. I am not using power saving option, I use custom option, with all to the max. But in some situations I have to put notebook in standby, and after that PS CC 2014 crashed. If I didn't do this everything working ok.

I didn't use predefined power option from the start of using Win 8.1 because problems with external USB 3.0 HD. There is a problem with lost connection with USB 3.0 HD which caused power off USB (under settings of power option in Win 8.1). It's strange that this is not make a problems with memory sticks USB 3.0. I hoped that update 1 would resolve this bug, but it still exist. You help me very much that I resolve that NVidia drivers are guilty for launching  crashes of PS CC 2014.

I mean that problem lay in connection with integrated Intel 4400 GC and external NVidia GT750. After the standby Intel 4400 is activated by OS and when I launched PS CC 2014 (because advance settings are on, under preferences of PS) this caused crashes.

    Thanks for all,

    Pedja.
