Photoshop CC 2017 Freezes PC

My entire computer will freeze and become unresponsive while working in Photoshop. The activity light is solid, sometimes my mouse will freeze, sometimes it wont. Windows shortcuts such as Alt+F4, Alt+Tab or Ctrl Alt Del, wont work. My only option is hard restart.

I originally thought the issue was Dropbox being open and working directly out of it, saving documents and syncing all at once causing some kind of issue.

This problem will occur regardless of Dropbox being open or not. It occurs no matter what drive I save the files to.

All drivers are up to date (Wacom, Windows, GPU)

Ram all checks out and no bad drives/sectors can be detected.

I feel like the issue happens A. When I have chrome open and am watching videos on my other monitor

or B. When I save my progress Via Ctrl+S in Photoshop.

I might try reverting back to 2015.5 and see if I can repeat the issue.

In the mean time, I would LOVE some help with this.

PC Specs:

i5 6600k (OC)

16Gb DDR4

GTX 1070 (8GB GDDR5)

Samsung 950 Evo M.2 SSD (Has my OS and Photoshop on it)

Using a Wacom Intuos Pro

Monitor 1: 1920x1080 144Hz using display port

Monitor 2 1600x1200 60Hz using DVI

(Both monitors are running off GPU)

1 SSD

3 HDD

ok I noticed that this problem occurs only when I also have my Adobe Bridge CC opened, at least that's how seems to work on my comp.

I just ran into the same problem. I was putting text over an image when the pc suddenly frooze. I have now disabled Graphic Card processor computing. Hope that will help.

I am using the online version of Photoshop with my Apple desk top. Totally frozen I can not do anything. I can not even get out of it. Do I force shut down my computer?

I noticed that when I changed Graphic Processor settings in Photoshop then problem seems to be solved. Never occured so far since my previous post. You can probably try it. Go to Edit>Preferences>Performance>Grpahics Processor Settings>Advanced Settings then I changed drawing mode from Advanced to Normal.

I have exactly same issue, Photoshop freezes entire system (Windows 7), everything works extreemly slows, sometimes I can move my mouse coursor a bit but that's all, hitting keys on keyboard doesn't work, only rester computer help. I thought it's maybe a problem with my hard drive, because it was already bad condition, but I bought totaly new comp, it was planned anyway : Core i7:7700 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10 - again same frustrating issue happens from time to time, while drawing on wacom tablet. All drivers are totally up to date. I found at Windows 10 Event Viewer some errors with NVIDIA Drivers, but it ONLY happens when working with Photoshop.

I have had a very similar issue although on my Mac. The issue was down to unwelcome hacker access made possible through hidden 'TEAMVIEWER and LOGMEIN' files residing in hidden folders throughout my system even though the apps had been properly uninstalled a while ago. 'User' access to Keychains resulted in 'permission' changes that caused apps to start crashing or hanging upon opening or when saving, also files previously saved had permission issues and would not open.

Issues were only resolved after full disk clean and re-install.

Hope not the problem for you but sharing this may help others who I am sure if not warned, will suffer the same fate.

Still very good idea to turn on 'show hidden files' and look for any files particularly in the 'Hidden Library' folder that bear the name of any programs that have previously been allowed to access and control system in order to operate.

Do you have the latest Nvidia driver installed?

Can you post the contents of the event viewer errors listed?

Similar problem here. Creating a new doc from the default start screen created a new doc but nearly all of the menu options are greyed out, no palette or toolbars worked either, couldn't even exit the program! Had to use the task manager to close PS. In the task manager the app was shown to be using over a gig of RAM.

BUT...

Once I got rid of the start/welcome screen and created a new doc using the file/new menu (like every other app since time began), everything worked as normal as far as I could tell, EXCEPT for this annoying error:

"The com.adobe.experimentation.extension extension could not be loaded because it was not properly signed.

Version 2.0.0

Path:C:\yadayadayada"

Typing out long error messages is a pain in the ass, maybe make error text select-able.

NOW...

I have installed Adobe on D drive (with symbolic liking) instead of C (system) because, like many new laptops, the C drive is an SSD with very little room for anything other than the OS, which is perhaps something Adobe should consider making easier rather than (attempting to) force(/ing) people to install everything on the C drive. Maybe this is causing some issues.

Anyway using Windows 10 (not by choice), totally new machine. Please don't tell me to reinstall PS, it's a dick move for people who don't have unlimited bandwidth, and I already had to do it 3 times just to get CC on my D drive instead of the C drive.

NOT a fan of the Cloud and "oh did your install fail? Just download this multi-gigabyte file on your very, very slow and limited bandwidth connection again. And again. And again. And..."

I have an older Windows ASUS laptop and had the same problem - photoshop would open then freeze.

I went into the Adobe 2017 files and searched for and deleted the Adobe Spacer Helper.exe file and the .dll file

I also disable the Adobe Sniffer using task manager when Adobe PS is open.

That seems to have fixed the problem.

Hi Guys.

I had same problem after update to Photoshop CC 2017.

What help me get out of frozen up every time I try run PS CC 2017 was:

Go to your install location of Photoshop CC 2017 where you can find "Photoshop.exe" file.

In my computer it is:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2017

Right click on it and choose properties from context menu.

When it open go to compatibility overlap/fold and at bottom chose: run this program as an administrator.

Dont know exacly sentence because I have this info in my computer with my national language, cant find PC with english system on close to me. sorry.

That help me get out from freezing photoshop CC 2017 after I run it.

Normaly it open and in windows manager i get info not responding. I reinstalled it several times, restarting PC few times nothing help except of that what i write abowe.

Here is screenshot of properties menu Photoshop.exe file in my national language. Maybe that help you also.

Only one thing was going bad after doing this option, you cant drop image files direct on opened Photoshop, you need chose file menu and chose "open"

Dont know why, but that how work adobe and windows 10 on Windows 7 64 bits havent any that stupid problems.
