Photoshop CC 2018 - Place Embed | Linked - No Resize Option In Properties Panel ?

As someone who has worked with Fireworks for the last 15 years or so, as I understand it Photoshop's version of import is Place Linked and Place Embed?

When I import a png into current document with either Place Embed or Place Linked the height and width options are not editable via the properties panel, yes I can grab and resize but that's no good for precision resizing, surely this is not right?

At the moment as a workaround I am opening the the image in anew Photoshop doc then copying and pasting to my working doc which seems ridiculous?

When you see the value in there if the width and height is not 100%  Photoshop has scaled the smart object because of your Photoshop preference to scale large images to fit within the canvas. if you need the original size you need to set in 100% width and height.

OK, I see now how to do this, it is confusing for someone moving over from another editor to Photoshop.

When grabbing/resizing or repositioning the imported image, vector etc  the height and width are not editable via the properties panel instead use the toolbar bar across the top precision resizing or positioning by entering values.

My mistake for not seeing what's in front of me but a tad confusing for a simple import and resize option. Somebody will tell me there's a good reason why it can;t be done via the properties panel but it seems weird to me,

When you place an image part of the process put you into a interactive transform. You can resize and position using the dialog bounding box and controls

As i have already stated I need precision resizing by entering the width and/or height values as you would normally in the properties panel - whats the point of this behavior for imported items, I don't get it?
