Photoshop CC 2019 (v20.0.2) - Text Tool doesn't work

I create a new RGB document, select the type tool, click on the canvas and start typing.  A new text layer appears in the Layers panel with the text I have typed, but nothing was showing up in the document.  So I reset the Character panel and the text now half works.  I can't type but I can't type on more than one line.  If I hit enter/return nothing happens and the next line of text I type doesn't show up on the canvas, but it shows up what I've typed in the layers panel.

I use photoshop daily and need to be able to typeset text urgently

I'm running a Mac Pro (Late 2013), macOS Sierra, 32GB Ram, AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB.

How about resetting the preferences settings?

Preferences -> general : reset preferences on quit

Then restart photoshop

Nice one Mohammad.harb, this did the trick.  Weird as this was the first time opening the 2019 version so hadn't set up any preferences.

Now here's another for you why can I not constrain the proportions of an object if scaling by selecting and holding shift?

My solution, continue using CC 2018 where everything seems to work as it should.  Bit of a mockery of the subscription model but I need to get things done.

Thanks again
