Photoshop CS3 not opening RAW files from Canon Rebel T3i

I've been going through old forum posts and have attempted to install the patch for CS3 to open RAW, which didn't work.  I also tried installing Adobe's suggested patch for the T3i, again still could not open my RAW images.  I keep receiving the error message "could not complete your request because it is the wrong type of document".  I'm honestly not sure what else to do, besides find some type of outside program to change the RAW images back into jpeg.  Does anyone know a solution to this problem?  Help is extremely appreciated at this point.

Photoshop cs3 can only be updated as as camera raw 4.6 and the Canon Rebel T3i needs at least camera raw 6.4.

So, you could use the free adobe dng converter to convert the cr2 files to dng copies, which photoshop cs3 should then be able to open.

The trick here is (as always): cameras that came out after the end of support for the product cannot read the raw files for that product. Luckily for us users, Adobe offers the DNG converter who helps out. I did not see a difference between a native RAW file or a DNG file, so I assume that it is even safe to convert and then delete the RAW files. I for my part did exactly that, when I had an unsupported camera. It's a great work around.
