Photoshop CS5 crashes upon use of the text tool

Community Beginner ,

Using PS CS5 on a MacAir running Mojave 14.4

Open the program ... no problem. Then select 'Text' tool and PS immediately crashes.

Try selecting the floating palette "Character" and the program crashes immediately
Tried to reset the tools by Ctrl Clicking on the tools options bar and selecting "Reset All Tools" and the program crashed.Watched a trouble shooting video and then id this:

Went to the Library->Prefs->Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings->Adobe Photoshop CS5 prefs.psp and moved that file onto the desktop.
Restarted PS and tried again

Same thing PS crashes.

I don't think I'm having a problem with any of the other tools.

Anyone out there with any ideas ?

Thanks

I think you'll probably have issues running such old software under a new OS. It might be time to either upgrade to the new version of Photoshop (CC2019), or maybe get a second-hand computer with an old OS to run Photoshop CS5.

Thanks - I'll give it a try even though that article was written with regard to the program crashing almost immediately and no mention of using any of the 'tools'. Will let you know how it goes.

Mojave has been a recurring headache !!!

Nope.
Tried that and noticed that PS was slightly slower starting up (that may not be relevant as I had only just rebooted the computer) but the same fault seems to still be there : as soon as I hit a text related control the program crashes.

Don't get any error messages - which I find a little strange too !

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this work around! I have been working for over seven hours on getting my PS in an old version (CS5) to remain open and this seems to have solved the issue. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
