Photoshop keeps stalling on iMac

Photoshop, and sometimes Illustrator, lately have been stalling while I'm working with the spinning rainbow circle. I have to force quit to get out of it.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times, same problem.

Anyone else have this issue?

Which version of Photoshop and OS?
It might be worth resetting your Photoshop preferences, which you can do under the General tab in Photoshop preferences.
