Photoshop Magic Wand Tool: Cannot Adjust Tolerance

When I am using the magic wand tool in Photoshop CC 2019, I cannot adjust the tolerance (the option is completely grayed out, see image below), and I cannot figure out why. Anybody have any clues?

Hi

Try resetting the tool

If that doesn't help try resetting PS preferences

    Thank you! For some reason this issue did not re-occur when I opened PS today...but in the future, if it happens again, I will refer to this.
