Photoshop - Open as Smart Object - Error

Hi there,

I am having an issue with the "Import as Smart Object menu item in Photoshop CC.

I've noticed the problem from CC through to CC 2018. No issue in CS6.

1) Open Photoshop and go to; File > Open as Smart Object... The open file dialogue pops up and I select any readable file (Illustrator file/PDF)

2) Select any type of import option "bleed box, media box, etc"

3) The file is opened but is stretched and the canvas size is incorrect. You then must go to the "Transform" command and reset it to 100%-100%, but now the canvas size is incorrect.

This is a real issue. We have a lot of types of imagery we work with on a day to day basis and not being able to open files as Smart objects consistently is a huge issue. What is the status of this bug?

Thanks,

Ed

Hi

I can replicate that here using ai.files . When using Open as Smart Object the document appears to take on the size and aspect ratio from the last opened ai file not the current one.  Whereas just using File >Open works correctly

I see you have raised a bug report - I've added a comment to it

I would circumvent the menu item and utilise »Place as …« for the time being, within a Script if necessary.

This is a user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.
