Photoshop Start Screen thumbnails location

New Here ,
Jul 16, 2019 Jul 16, 2019

I scrapped some projects I was working on a while back, but have since thought I might go return to them. I deleted everything to clear up some space, but the thumbnails from them in the 'Recent' list are still there, so I'm wondering where the images for the thumbnails are stored. Photoshop still has their thumbnails, so it must have copies of them somewhere, even if they're fairly compressed. What I'm trying to find (if possible) is the file location of these thumbnail copies. If I can at least recover a few images from wherever they're stored, it would save me a lot of work. Any ideas?

Hi

These thumbnails are only cached versions of the images and are stored as far a as I'm aware here on Windows

C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings\MachinePrefs.psp

So no you can't recover them from the recent file list

Hi Eriko,

I agree with GedTraynor that these thumbnails shown in the File> "Recent" menu is just a cache item and it cannot be recovered. Also, they are of a very low resolution so you cannot use them for any processing work. I'd still check with our Engineering team if there is a way to get to these files, but the chances are very low.

Thanks,

Akash

What operating system are you using?

How did you go about deleting the files?

Could they still be in the Windows Wastebasket for instance, or the Mac equivalent?
