problem with generator

I updated Photoshop CC last night and am now hitting Generator errors when opening PS. I was able to turn Generator off via PS settings and this allowed me to continue working as usual until I attempted to export SVGs. Apparently, this turns Generator back on and triggers this warning: "There is a problem with Generator. Please quit Photoshop and try again. If the problem persists, remove any third-party plug-ins or try reinstalling Photoshop." I have no plugins installed and reinstalled PS three times already. Help?

Have you installed any other application like Zeplin ? I have same problem and I found that Zeplin had installed a plugin into Photoshop, old version of Photoshop CC may cause this problem, after I update to the latest Photoshop CC solved this problem.

I took a look through the logs for generator as I was having the same issues - all of the errors looked like this -
Uncaught exception on Mon Jul 25 2016 09:52:28 GMT-0500 (CDT):
Error trace: Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '/var/folders/1l/vtfs3tsx4r9_w1qnbyrynh6r0000gr/T/io.zeplin.osx/io.zeplin.photoshop-panel.zip'
at Error (native)
I hadn't installed the zeplin.io plugin but I thought it was worth a look - sure enough zeplin plugin had been installed in CC2015.5's directory. I deleted it along with any past app folders that Adobe updater had left behind from previous photoshop versions just to be sure all were gone - voila - works like a charm.

I am having the same problem since updating to Photoshop CC v.17.0.0
I have nothing in the plugin folder except an empty generator folder. It happens even if I disable the generator plugin in PS preferences. I have tried every suggestion on the internet which worked for at least one person, but none of them worked for me.

Problem solved for me (finally).
In my case Photoshop was looking for some files in my personal network folder. This folder was not existing anymore and that is why the Generator gave problems. By changing my network folder (in Windows) to the correct location the problem was solved. In my network drive are the folders: \My Pictures, My Videos etc. (maybe PS need it?).

I finally managed to solve my problem, and I will post the result here in case it helps others.
I saw in my Generator logs that I was getting the following error:
[info:generator-spaces 16:49:59.706 main.js:36:20] Starting websocket server...
[error:generator-spaces 16:49:59.723 Server.js:230:30] stopping due to error while starting http/ws servers: ERR_CREATE_SERVER

Then I realized that my firewall might be blocking Photoshop from accessing the localhost. I changed my firewall setting to allow this and it works now!

I've been getting the same Generator error when launching the Windows version of Photoshop CC 2017. The same error also occurs when I try to use the Generator. In addition, I've been getting a different error when trying to use the legacy function "Save for Web." Uninstalling/reinstalling hasn't helped. Creating and changing permissions for the C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2017/Generator folder, as others have proposed, didn't fix the errors. Removing the Reflow plug-in didn't work either.
In my case, the problem wasn't with Photoshop but with the registry entry for the My Documents folder. (I had relocated the folder while setting up my new computer, but the registry entry didn't update.) The entry pointed to a non-existent location. I found the fix in Sergei's post at Photoshop: "Save for Web" error when "My Documents" network path is disconnected | Photoshop Family .... Navigating in the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders and changing the "Personal" key to the correct location resolved all my problems!

I had this problem when I changed all my Drive letters around to be in order. Because I had moved my document folder to
a different drive.

I had this issue happen a while back and a temp fix that worked was to create a new local user account on Windows. I eventually wanted to go back to my original account. So, this issue resurfaced and I found a fix - at least for me - I hope helps others. It involves messing with your registry. So, before you do that "export" it to back it up as you can render your computer useless if you mess up your registry. A summary is below and the full link is too - follow what "Sergei" says to do:
Exit Photoshop
Go to the start menu on Windows and type regedit. Then...
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
When there, on the right-side Window under "Name" you will see a line for "Personal"
On the right of that is "Data" and next to "Personal" mine was pointing to an old drive I had removed.
It said something like "P:\Documents"
Right-click on "Personal" and select "Modify" and instead, type in "%USERPROFILE%\Documents" (without the quotes)
Click OK and exit Regedit. Restart Photoshop.
For me, this removed the Generator error and inability to export.

That removes the error message, but also means you can't use Generator. Which is not really a solution...
