Problems with Image Processing CS5

Hello, I have Photoshop CS5 - for years I have used the steps "File-> Scripts-->Image processor" to turn my Canon raw files into smaller jpegs, to use as thumbnails.

Suddenly this no longer works for me. It opens each file in the batch in turn, appears to be working on them, leaves them open in the window, but gives the message "sorry I could not process the following files:....(and lists them all)"

I then have to close down each file individually. This has only started relatively recently (Early August).

Also I noticed that in the "Image Processor" window - section 4, where it says run actions, there are no longer any actions present to run. I used to use "Sharpen" on my batches. I had also entered some other actions,  but its so long ago I cannot remember how to do this. Could this be related?

I have seen posts saying to alter my number of history states from 20 to 60 - I cannot work out how to do this - apologies - I am not terribly technically minded. I used to always just look up help via the "Help" button on the top of the window - however this doesn't seem to connect to anything anymore? And when I try to contact Customer Care about this, the only option is a Consumer Forum - no email address, nothing more direct.

Please if you have advice, can you keep it very simple and step by step, as the answers I have read are confusing. I truly don't mean to sound ungrateful, but is there a way of avoiding community forums in seeking Photoshop help - or is that a thing of the past now? Thank you for your time folks

I would run the action without checking on Step 4 to see what step it is failing on. See if it runs. If it does then the Action is somehow messing it up. I agree to try resetting your preferences. CMD-OPT-SHIFT or CONTROL-ALT-SHIFT when you  are restarting the application. If the action is still corrupted then create a new action. Do you need help on creating an Action?

Hello Katie

I am not sure on what point to do the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT - I usually just double click an icon to start Photoshop. Can you explain what you mean please? I am also not sure what preferences to change - it is a long time since I first installed this and everything has gone well up till now.

WRT creating actions, I thought that there should be some actions already in the software, but I cannot find any. There are some tutorials about creating actions and I think I can work through that .

Thank you for your time

start Photoshop with its icon and immediately Press and Hold  ALT+CTRL+SHIFt Photoshop should pop up a dialog to confirm you want to delete you preference Reply yes Photoshop will delete you preferences and create new Adobe default preferences for Photoshop.

You need to get the pop-up press the and hold the keys quickly or use the reset button in your preferences and restart Photoshop

When things do not work in Photoshop  check all settings.  For example in section 4 you need to check run Action  then you should be able to select an action set and a action in it to run.  After checking all setting if it still  not working try rebooting something may need to be reset with a system boot. If Photoshop is still not working try resetting all Photoshop tools.  If that does not fix your problem try resetting you user ID Photoshop preferences.

Hello, in Section 4, the check place is greyed out, and there are no actions on the list to select from. So there is no possibility any more of actually selecting run action.

Do you mean reboot the whole computer - like just restart it?

Many thanks
