Project Didn't Save Properly?

I saved my project last night but when I open it, all of the progress I made on it yesterday is gone. At first I thought it just saved somewhere else but the save time seems correct so probably not.

Idk if this has anything to do with it but it's a pretty big project so when I exit, PS says it'll automatically close after the save completes and I never stay to see it finish. I don't have autosave set up either since I've never had PS crash or glitch out on my like this. Any ideas on what caused this or how to fix/recover it? It's not that big of a deal but it'd be nice to not have to redo an entire day's work. Or maybe I just dreamt up all the work I did and it actually saved properly. Thanks in advance.

If the project is that big are you saving as a .psb format instead of .psd?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Mac or Windows? I would run disk utility and repair permission to rule out any bad blocks on your drive.

Save in background is very reliable in my experience. If it did not save properly, you would have gotten an error and the image would still be on screen. Unless you had a power outage and all apps quit, you should also have seen . an error about your computer not being shutdown properly.

So you are saying you did not have this  setting on? Then you should never lose  more than 10 minutes work, and would get a pop up saying your app crashed do you wish to recover.

if you did have this on would say to look here

    /Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC 2018/AutoRecover

If you accidentally clicked don't save, then your time stamp would be older on the file. Are you sure the time stamp is at the time & date your thought you saved the file?

If the layers are there, but this looks different, maybe a layer comp got created.

So far your theory on the dream sounds the most logical, is there anything else you can tell us?

How large is your file, can we see a screenshot of your layers & performance prefs?

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I checked my preferences and I do have autosave checked but the folder where it should be is empty. Here's screenshots of said preferences and folder.

Here's the layers and file properties.

Nothing seems odd about the layers (except all the missing ones that weren't saved properly). Like I mentioned, the last modified time seems to suggest that it saved around the time I wanted it to. The time of this^ screenshot is ~5:30pm so modified time is ~1:30am which is accurate.

Here's what part of the project looks like rn / what it looked like two days ago:

Versus what it should look like (a png I exported before saving):

Before saving, I click okay on this prompt:

Then I try to exit PS right away and get this prompt:

I tab out after that and eventually PS closes by itself with no errors or other prompts popping up. I stayed on my computer for about an hour after the time it allegedly saved and nothing came up either. Plus I left my pc on overnight and saw nothing from PS in the morning.

Again, not a huge problem, I can just use the quick png I exported and work from there since I'm almost done with it anyway but I'd just like to know what possibly caused this.

I thinks its a «rights» problem on the PC. Please try to check/fix the write/save-rights.

    good luck.
