PS CC 2017 Running out of memory

Hey folks,

I'm having a serious issue with Photoshop (and Lightroom) CC where when I'm asking it to work a bit harder on larger files , typically around 300Mb - 1Gb my Adobe system runs out of memory and crashes. I'm working with mostely landscape photographs so not doing massive graphics manipulations.

There is no real pattern to the crash I could be working with layers, Photo merge, HDR and boom I get the error - "Your Computer is Low on Memory" & told to close programs, it then just crashes my machine.

The OS Is Windows 10 x64, both Photoshop & Lightroom are 64 bit, I have NIK software installed (set up for x64)

I have 24gig of memory, an i7 950 CPU and a 2 gig Asus Radeon R9 200 graphics card so the system should be plenty grunty enough. I have a separate scratch disk set up with 500GB free on it on a HDD which is a 7200rpm with 64mb of cache on it.

I have set photoshop to use 55%, 60% & 80% of my available memory but still the issue - seems the more you give it the more it wants!

I have disabled the use GPU - (found my lightroom was craching because of this) no change, enabled the GPU - no change.

At the moment photoshop is pratically uselss to me unless I find a solution to this memory issue so keen for thoughts, questions & suggestions!

The bug could fill 200GB and when Photoshop is closed those used 200GB would be freed up...

"Your Computer is Low on Memory"

The is a message you may receive fro your OS when your boot dive is nearly full. CC 2017 had a problem. CC 2017 had a problem that Adobe I believe may have fixed in one of the CC 2017 updates. CC 2017 was filling users Scratch disk because of the problem. Make sure your CC 2017 has the updates installed and is at at version CC 2017.1.1. If it is try using CC 2014 its the version of Photoshop I choose to use.

When the message is being displayed check your Boot disk free space.

The boot disk only has the OS & Programs on it so has 200Gb empty on it but will check what it shows when I have the error. If I reboot the PC I can start working again but will run out of memory again.

I only ever get this message with adobe running so think it's an adobe photoshop issue
