Question

"Jpeg Options" when saving

How do i set my jpeg options to save at the maximum quality (12) each time rather then doing it manually each time? TIA!

I run hundards of images through photoshop to apply a certain action, I batch this process. But the files keep getting compressed (from like 8MB to 2MB) and I think it's because my computer is saving them at a 8 quality  (my clients are having a hard time printing a large sizes as a result)

"I run hundards of images through photoshop to apply a certain action, I batch this process."

Which method or script you are using to batch images? Do you have file saving option in batch dialogue or you have recorded step to save files? If you have step in action then expand it to see which saving settings has been recorded.

I'm not sure of the specifics of your workflow. Are you using Quick Export? If so, have a look at the Quick Export settings within the Export tab of the Photoshop Preferences.

It's important to be aware that "maximum quality" jpeg is not actually maximum quality. It's still jpeg compression, still lossy and destructive, and still degrading the file on every resave.

Use PSD or TIFF if you really want maximum quality.

Personally I think jpeg quality 12 is pointless. The only reason to use jpeg is to save bandwidth, so you may as well go down to 8 or so, which results in a file of around 1-5% of original size. For one-off single use, the quality loss isn't that much bigger than quality 12. But don't save it again.

You may want to consider using a »proper« (as in »not employing lossy compression«) format like tif.

Anyway, for the saving part you could create/use a Script.

»But the files keep getting compressed (from like 8MB to 2MB) and I think it's because my computer is saving them at a 8 quality «

What do you mean »my computer is saving …«? You set up the parameters of the Action and the Batch, didn’t you?

Why do you use Batch and not Image Processor or, better yet, Image Processor Pro?
