"Select /Modify in PSD CC is greyed out

I previously used"Select /Modify to expand colored pixels on a layer, but in PSD CC it is greyed out. I don't need to expand the selection - only the pixels. Please help.

Hi first you need to select an image and then it works, working good at my side try to reset your preferences .... hope it helps you...regards

For those still experiencing issues on this, try cmd selecting your layer.

If you want to soften the edges of your selection so that it blends into the background or another image, use feathering. (You can enter a value in pixels this field before you create the selection.) As you'll learn later in this chapter, feathering a selection lets you gently fade one image into another.
